In my previous report I have promised a post about our coloring process. And here it comes!
The coloring task is not that resource-demanding as vectorization, but still this is quite a big routine. That’s why we have asked for help the students of our little studio.
First of all, we have prepared a reference images showing colors for each character. Here are the main ones.
Then, we have made a list of all scenes queued for coloring. Every scene is a directory with lineart images by Anastasia Majzhegisheva.
A student takes a lineart image and filling it with the main colors. This is done by hand using graphic tablet. Also, sometimes they use automatic inking feature of GMIC (this probably worth a separate tutorial).
When the basic filling is done, Anastasia steps in again. She is painting highlights and shades. You can see the resulting image below.
After that the file is ready to get inserted into animation, but this is a topic for another post.
At the end of this report I would like to thank our students Tamara Hudjakova, Anastasia Popova, Mikhail Baklanov, Anna Erogova and Viktorija Popova who are helping us with the coloring process. Denis Kholodilin made some photos showing them working on this task. Much thanks to everyone!
Special thanks to Sam Tuke who have joined us as a new patron this month!
